Several years ago Maki and I co-hosted a radio show and if there’s one thing I learned it was to not keep the audience in the same mood for too long. Attention spans and all that. So although I thought it appropriate to be timely with my reactive comic about the recent acupuncture posts/discussions I decided against launching into an all new sacred-cow take-down today. But rest assured my guns are loaded. And by guns I mean biceps. And by biceps I mean research.
It’s easy to make fun but acupuncture hits a nerve* for reasons that go beyond simple credulity and ignorance and some of these underlying issues have similarities with others that are worth exploring. Why are we able to penetrate some non scientific practices that are passed off as science and not others? What mechanisms are in place that allow skeptics to be mislead? Well, in an upcoming episode I’ll be teaming up with a specialist to bring you the hard facts and inside poop on some (soon to be hot) topics, and hopefully we can get a discussion going.
In other news, a few days ago was Sci-ence.org’s one year anniversary! I celebrated by forgetting. That’s one year down, and Kurzweil willing, a couple hundred to follow. Though he better get on it quick because with every passing holiday meal, my heart gets that much closer to rage-quitting.
